Project Title

Online investment crowd-funding pitches: Analysing entrepreneurial performances and communicative interactions in the constitution of new enterprises.

Abstract

The entrepreneurial pitch and the communications surrounding it are central to the creation and constitution of new enterprises. Such pitches have been attracting sustained research attention. More recent research has focussed on pitches on online funding sites as these have grown increasingly important and the expectations for further such growth are very high (Latham & Tello, 2014). Despite various governments indicating their commitment to provide regulatory facilitation of such funding mechanisms, delays in such regulatory frameworks means that the research has been confined largely to rewards-based, as opposed to investment-based, funding such as www.kickstarter.com , with little research on these done in Ireland. With the advent of sites such as the Irish www.linkedfinance.com and the American alphaworks.net

there now exists an opportunity to carry out ground-breaking research in this area. DIT’s College of Business provides a tradition of communications and discourse analytical research where this project can be conducted among a cluster of researchers using discourse analysis methodologies, and in a college with a critical mass of scholars engaged in research on enterprise practice and policies.
