Changes to Internships for Next Quarter New internship times to be announced on website 5 hour blocks instead of 4 Presentation on Resume & Internship (for more help or details, visit ICC) Resume = self promotion Action verbs: managed, oversaw, prepared, handled Keywords: MS office, Excel highlight your skills on the resume Good way to prepare for interview Clean and Neat Resume Usually read in less than 30 sec Resume =/= CV( life story) traditionally used for graduate students detailed and can be of any length undergraduates should stick to resume Specific Resume Grammar start with verb don’t use I or pronouns quantify your accomplishments NO vague adjectives or generalization Sample resume Standard Resume Categories Name+ Contact, objective, education (list course title not number), experience Optional Categories Format Options Chronological (Reverse), functional, combination Tailor it based on specific job may change every time you apply for a different position) Write it using job description, company information Many Different “Correct” Options Don’t Include GPA if its lower than 3.2 (only include selling points) Be Consistent with Format Get Involved (help available from student adviser office at ICC) Review Resume review 4-7 times, have others review it INTERNSHIP treat it like a job, act as if supervisors are hiring you perfect opportunity to network with professionals, ask for referrals show initiative, always ask for more work listen and ask questions attend events show up early, leave late Things not to do: cell phones, homework, open-toed shoes, negative gossip Letter of Recommendation Help available from ICC 2nd floor south hall Student Advisor Drop in Hours 10am- 4pm AES Office Hours: M/R 2-4pm Appointments with Coordinators: 530-752-2855 (press 7) ASUCD Resource forum club funding and resources available Outreach event about club resource and funding with raffle prizes Wednesday 2/19 7pm at MU |
